Case Study Analysis

The researched business that most inspires my idea is Emma Holland PR, it has similarities to my business such as having a creative sector focus, with Emma Holland PR specifically focusing on promoting theatre productions. This further inspires my business as it was a business started independently by Emma Holland, showing the success an independent PR company with a creative niche can have. This PR company will influence my business idea as it shows that working in promoting in the creative sector is viable, meaning I will continue to have this as the demographic of my business as well. The aspects of Emma Holland PR that I aim to adapt and expand on is the value the business has on industry relationships, I aim to also focus on building relationships within my business but would expand this past just industry connections and focus on building relationships with the local community, integrating my business into the local area as this is an important aspect of my mission statement. To stay with this community led approach, I would avoid using the boutique branding of Emma Holland PR, this suits a London based, theatre related company well however the high-end business branding wouldn’t suit my business as it could appear less accessible to all community businesses, which is my business’ demographic and an important part of my mission statement.

Brand Identity

Of the brands I have researched, I think Emma Holland PR and Breathe PR are the most effective. Emma Holland PR has a consistent house style that works well to reflect different important aspects of the business. Emma Holland’s logo features London landmarks, highlighting where the company is based as well as referencing culture, which implies theatre, especially the west end, which they often work with. Breathe PR works to show their mission statement through their branding, starting with their name and through the soft colours and simplistic shapes of the logo, showing their aim to avoid the hectic and stressful environment marketing can bring.

On the other hand, I feel Reflection PR doesn’t reflect its business as well as it could through its branding, I like the name and logo image of a dragon fly. However, the inconsistent colouring across the logo on their website stops them from having a recognisable house style. I also feel the colours aren’t accurate at portraying a PR company that focuses on outdoor, tourism and leisure, the purple and pink colours seem more fitting for a creative business than tourism. This could be improved by using a different colour scheme like blue and green, to reflect the focus on outdoor as well as tourism aspects such as camping, or potentially sunset colours would better fit tourism, given the association with a new day and adventure.

These different brands have allowed me to better reflect and build my own idea, allowing me to focus on showing the best parts of my business through my branding, they have influenced some of the choices I have made that allow my brand to suit and show my business idea such as the focus on imagery and colours.

Regulatory framework analysis

The regulation for this industry includes a variety of aspects such as legal acts like the consumer protection from unfair trading regulations and the business protection from misleading marketing regulations. alongside this the British codes for advertising and sales promotion have been created by the committee of advertising practise (CAP) these codes relate to non-broadcast advertising such as Internet, press and cinema promotion, these are endorsed by the Advertising Standards Authority and focus on insuring business promotion and advertisement is both accurate and honest, it also addresses specific conditions such as advertising to children, political advertising and potential cases of causing offence through this advertising.

This outlines the clear expectations and requirements of a business with this industry that my business will also have to follow, however due to the nature of my business, much of the additional code will not apply as these cover things such as drug advertising as well as aspects of marketing such as radio and cinema that require further pre-vetting by the independent associations that regulates these sectors.

Creative Industry Analysis

5 things I have learnt about the creative industry that I am developing further through my research:

-The impact of Brexit on the creative industries

-The creative industries recovery from the Covid pandemic

-The recent growth of the creative industry

-The potential future growth of the creative industry

-The concentration of the creative businesses across the UK
