Regulatory body and framework

A regulatory body is a government agency or public organisation that creates the requirements, conditions or restrictions for a specific area, their main aim is to exercise a regulatory function. A regulatory framework is the structure used enacting these regulations and includes the regulations, policies, guidelines, procedures, and decisions.

Ofcom

Ofcom is a government approved regulatory body that monitors a variety of different sectors including broadband, television, radio programmes and the universal postal service. They handle complaints and aim to protect viewer from harmful or offensive material on TV, radio and on-demand. They also maintain that people’s privacy isn’t invaded across these platforms.

ASA

ASA is the Advertising Standards Authority, its main purpose its main purpose is to monitor ads across the UK media and ensure that they follow advertising rules. ASA is an independent advertising regulator focuses on responding to concerns and complaints over adverts and sometimes works to ban Ads misleading, harmful, offensive or irresponsible.

IPSO

IPSO is the Independent Press standards organisation. it works as an independent regulator for the newspaper and magazine industry in the UK. they aimed to protect individual rights, make sure the industry maintains a good standard of journalism, as well as holding the newspapers and magazines accountable for any wrongdoing. they also helped to maintain freedom of expression for the press.

BBFC

BBFC Is the British board of film classification. it is an organisation that rates motion pictures and hung videos in the UK. which is responsible for the censorships of films and the national age classifications given to films.

PEGI

PEGI stands for Pan European Game Information. It is a video game content rating system allows the public to make an informed decision about the content they consume and play. the PEGI rating is mandatory for all UK video games. companies such as PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox require a PEGI rating for any game they sell for their game consoles.

Creative Industries Council

The creative industries council is a forum that aims to connect the government with creative businesses and creative organisations, the purpose of this is to remove barriers within the UK that may inhibit the growth of the creative industries and aims to increase the industries  access to finances, export markets, skill development and promoting opportunities. The creative industries council also spearheads negotiations with the government to further the assistance and growth for the creative sector. This included actions such as a three year deal agreed in 2018 to assist the sector with opportunities, investment, development of future content and technologies as well as aiming to nurture new creative skills, this deal has let to many initiatives such as the creative clusters and diversity charter.
