Task 9
DCMS
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport focuses on investing in innovation for businesses and communities to grow as well as promoting and protecting the artistic and cultural heritage of the UK.
Recent DCMS announcements
Recent announcements by the DCMS show that independent UK
film and screen content will receive £1 million through the UK global screen
fund as 18 further awards are given. Alongside this funding has also been
confirmed to support a Covid-19 charity aiming to reach 6.5 million people and
to tackle loneliness and improve mental health for young people.
How would my business be affected by cultural policy?
A major impact on cultural policy in recent years is Brexit,
which has a massive impact on the country, however due to the small scale,
community centred aspects of my business, changes to imports, regulations and
other currency costs would have minimal effect. Some aspects such as changes in
the availability to creative business grants would potentially affect my business
as it makes this source of start up budget access less likely.
Another impact is the pandemic, which has shifted the
culture and attitude towards certain things such as events. The outlook on
events has shifted because of the pandemic, this would directly impact events I
would run for clients as well as any potential PR and marketing events held for
promotion. This would mean consideration would have to be placed on aspects
such as contingencies in case any similar issues arose or using similar tactics
used for disrupted events to make sure am alternative is available if other
considerations inhibit the event from taking place. There would also have to be
consideration of implementing measures such as allowing for social distancing,
supplying adequate hand sanitiser throughout the event and having masks used if
necessary. This would be to make sure guests and clients feel safe when moving
forward as some people still have hesitancy around ending large scale or well
populated events.
